The themes in the hymn “Abide With Me”match the themes I wish to convey in this particular painting so well that I thought it a fitting title. If you do not know this hymn, I would encourage you to read through the lyrics. I have found it very comforting in some of the darkest seasons of my life, to be reminded of God’s presence and light even in the most difficult and seemingly hopeless situations.

“Hold thou thy cross before my closing eyes; shine through the gloom, and point me to the skies: heav’n’s morning breaks, and earth’s vain shadows flee; in life, in death, O Lord, abide with me.”
